• Snuggle when sharing a book creating positive memories for you and your child.
  • Point to the pictures and ask your child questions “Can you find the frog on this page?”
  • Point out letters in books or other print, and ask…What letter is this?  Whose name begins with this letter?
  • Repeat the phrases your child uses back to them and use them in a sentence.
  • This is modeling language structure.Make letters from clay/play dough or play with magnetic letters.
  • Read together often for short periods of time. (2-3 minutes)
  • Use books as a reward.
  • Have your child look at books in the car, bus, waiting for an appointment, while potty training.
  • Be prepared to read a book briefly and not always finish the story
  • Let your child see you reading. (Books, newspapers, mail, directions, recipes, e-mail…)
  • Introduce your child to crayons and paper.
  • Repeat the phrases your child uses back to them and use them in a sentence.
  • Have books available to you child throughout the house. (baskets work great for this)
  • Visit the library regularly
